Environmental initiatives
In line with the Canon Group philosophy of kyosei, Canon Optron spearheads several environmental initiatives that aim to realize global sustainability.
Efforts toward achieving SDGs
Creating awareness about SDGs
To increase employees’ awareness about SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and thus take the first step towards achieving them, information about SDGs is on prominent display in the Canon Optron office, and employees wear the SDG lapel pin.
Endorsement of COOL CHOICE
COOL CHOICE is a national movement that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and counter global warming by encouraging “wise choices” that contribute to a carbon-free society. These choices include replacing products with eco-friendly versions, using eco-friendly services, and choosing eco-friendly lifestyles.
Canon Optron has been a registered endorser of this movement since 2017.
Partnerships for environmental beautification
Canon Optron has an environmental beautification partnership agreement with Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, where its office is located. Under this agreement, Canon Optron actively takes measures to beautify the streets, parks, and other public facilities and spaces near its office.
Environmentally friendly biological weed control (weeding with goats)
As part of our environmental efforts, Canon Optron has used goats to weed control on our premises since 2022. Weeding with goats helps to reduce environmental impact as it does not require machinery, chemicals, or post-removal processing.
Earth Hour
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement, where individuals, communities, and businesses are encouraged to turn off electric lights on the same day at the same time as a symbol of commitment to environmental protection and anti-global warming efforts.
Canon Bird Branch Project: Placement of nesting boxes
As one of its efforts to preserve environmental diversity, the Canon Group runs a bird-themed initiative called the Canon Bird Branch Project. Canon Optron has participated in this project since 2019 by placing nesting boxes within its premises to invite birds of various species to make their home. The nesting boxes have been placed in 6 different locations.
Biotope (Optron Forest)
We created a pond on our premises to act as a living space for birds and other wildlife. Our employees voted to name it “Tsumugi Pond”. As a place for relaxation, it contributes to kyosei (harmonious existence) with our employees and the local community.
Zero plastic
To help reduce our customers’ impact on the environment, we use effectively zero plastic in our product packaging.
Zero marine litter
As part of our efforts to beautify the neighborhood around our office, we conduct clean-ups endorse under Nippon Foundation’s Zero Marine Litter Week. 80% of marine litter originates from land as street litter ends up in rivers, which then flow out to sea. For this reason, reducing marine litter starts with keeping the streets clean.
Humus making
As part of our environmental beautification efforts, we make humus from fallen leaves we collect. The humus will be used to improve the environment on our premises.
